Does this story sound familiar?
You've packed the cardboard boxes…
You've color-coded the moving totes. You've driven across three state lines to a brand-new station. And sitting on the front seat of your car so the movers wouldn't touch it— is your child’s 3-ring IEP binder.
It holds years of hard-fought accommodations, speech therapy minutes, and progress notes.
Then comes your first meeting at the new school.
You sit down at a conference table surrounded by unfamiliar faces.
You hand over the binder, only to hear the administrator smile politely and say:
‘Let’s wait and see.'
Your stomach drops.
Because you know what "wait and see" really means.
It means months of lost therapy minutes. It means regression, dinner table meltdowns, and feeling like you have to prove your child's needs all over again from scratch.
the truth military parents need to hear:
You do not have to "wait and see."
Under federal law (IDEA) and the Interstate Compact (MIC3), your child’s right to special education services does NOT disappear at state lines.
You don't need a law degree to advocate like a pro.
You don't need to memorize a 300-page legal manual. You just need a step-by-step system, clear legal explanations, and actionable worksheets that give you your voice back in that room.

From our past resources…
“What I appreciated most is how clearly it walks you through transferring services from your old duty station to your new one. It breaks down who to contact, what documents to request, how to coordinate between clinics or school-based providers, and what questions to ask before you leave. Instead of guessing, you have a step-by-step plan.”

Meet Jordyn
SLP | MOM | MILITARY SPOUSE | CREATOR
Hi, I’m Jordyn Sheriff
Founder of Courageous Communicators, Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist, and Military Spouse.
I’ve sat on both sides of the IEP table. I've been the therapist helping families navigate goals and evaluations, and the military family watching everyone around me struggle through state-to-state moves.
I built The Military Family's IEP Blueprint to make it easier to understand the gap between military life and special education rights, so you never have to walk into a meeting feeling unprepared, outnumbered, or dismissed again.
faq
Is this guide specific to one state?
No! The blueprint covers federal laws (IDEA, FAPE, Section 504) that apply across all 50 states, plus specific guidance on the Military Interstate Children’s Compact (MIC3) for state-line transitions.
Is this a physical book or digital?
This is a digital download (PDF). You get access upon purchase to save to your computer, tablet, or phone (or print out to put straight into your IEP binder)!
My child has a 504 plan, not an IEP. Is this for me?
Yes! The guide specifically covers differences between 504 plans and IEPs, accommodations, and how to protect service continuity under both.
What if I don't have a meeting coming up for a few months?
That is actually the best time to start! Building an organized binder, auditing your child's current IEP goals, and establishing a paper trail with the school team before a meeting arises is what prevents panic later.
How is this different from the free information I can find online?
Free online articles often give generic legal advice that completely ignores the reality of military life. I've lived it as a mom, speech therapist, and military spouse, it's all of my expertise in one place.
What's in the workbook?
The printable workbook gives you 10+ worksheets, including: My Child at a Glance, Support Team Contacts, IEP Meeting Planner, Questions for My Team, PCS Transition Checklist, and the IEP Goal Tracker.
Give Your Child the Advocate They Deserve.
